Jamiella Brooks, Ph.D. is a full time writer and pedagogical thinker.

​

Throughout her career, she has been the founding director of all former permanent positions.

 

Formerly the Director of Professional Development & Education, as well as Equity & Inclusion Initiatives at Penn Carey Law School. She also serves as Faculty Fellow of Gregory College House.

 

She served as an Associate Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning where she focused on programming and support for equitable and inclusive teaching practices, both at Penn and Berea College where the bell hooks' center was founded.

 

As a first-gen Ph.D., she finds it important to understand and engage campus culture as it continues to change with each incoming class, and uses her role to make the university setting as accessible and transparent as possible. 

​

Jamiella earned her doctorate in French Literature at the University of California, Davis, and her B.A. in English at Oberlin College. She has served as a Fulbright Teaching Assistant in France and participated in the McNair Scholarship and Mellon Fellows programs.

​

She is a Black mama-scholar, wife, daughter, and descendant. When she isn't fighting colonialism in pedagogy, she is reading Afrofuturism and inventing languages.
